Custom Carpeting Process
Creating a unique carpet
Custom Design Workshop’s trained carpet artists design and create one-of-a-kind in-laid carpet, sculpted carpet, and carpet art. Our process begins with inspiration from each individual client. Sometimes our clients – interior designers, architects, builders, homeowners, and business owners – sketch their own image or bring in samples of fabric or artwork they’d like to complement; other times they turn to our designers for fresh concepts designed to enhance a particular space.
After listening to our client’s vision and explaining carpet options, we create a small pattern on paper for client approval. We can also work with supplied files – complete designs or logo elements – in Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, and AutoCadd. As visual artists, we recognize the importance of details. If necessary, we will fine tune the sketch until our client is completely satisfied.
Once a client approves his or her design, we create a large-scale pattern and begin crafting the final product. We use only high-quality nylon and wool carpet for all of our custom carpet projects. For in-laid carpet, we cut each piece by hand, arranging colors to create the pattern desired.
Then we carefully insert and secure each piece, ensuring the finished design is as strong as or stronger than the original carpet. For sculpted carpet, each inlay must be hand carved to give it a three dimensional appearance.
